Music Marketing Project

     Our music marketing project was for an artist names Gidimake, who performs heavy metal rock music. Our group had to come up with a storyboard and produce an original music video for her song Mother Mother. We also had to plan the marketing and distribution techniques and plans that are going to be used., as well as giving a presentation to the class.

    The first thing we did for our project was listen to the song and do research on the genre. As none of us in our group were familiar with the heavy metal genre, so we had to do extensive research on different artists and music video styles within the heavy metal genre. We also did research on the different ways heavy metal artists market and distribute their music and put it all in a chart detailing how different artists market their music such as Metallica and Judas Priest. By doing this, we got a better understanding of how people in this genre market to their audiences, which helped us understand how to market our music video so it would be seen by as many people as possible. For example, the singer Everlast gained fame by producing the theme song for the TV show Saving Grace, and Metallica did things such as hold virtual concerts and meet and greets with fans to gain money for charity and to get closer with fans. 

    Seeing bands and artists who have done things like this made us decide to market our music video by holding virtual concerts fans can stream online during the COVID quarantine and live concerts once the virus goes away. We also decided to have a large social media presence, including Instagram, Twitter, etc. and putting the song and music video on YouTube, since that is the best way for audiences to view the music video. Using social media platforms is an ideal way to be able to interact with fans and be able to connect with them better, and also being able to communicate with them better about release dates and updates on concerts and other announcements. Another way that we are thinking of making our song and music video well known is being open to using our song as background for commercials, since viewers will hear the song on TV and enjoying it, and then look up the music video online. We are also going to create a website for our artist, where viewers can learn more about Gidimake and what her music and style is. They can also go to the website to buy merch, watch music videos, and learn when concerts are and buy tickets to them.

    For the actual music video, we looked at many other heavy metal rock music videos for inspiration then started on the creation of our storyboard to plan what the video is going to be about and how we are going to film it, including the shots and angles used in it. We are planning on making it a story based music video, with the story revolving around a girl who ran away from home and is trying to convince her mother that she is living great on her own, even though now that she is independent her life is miserable and difficult. Using shaky camera shots and tilted angles and other angles, we can show the girl's instability and all of the difficulties that she is dealing with little to no dialogue.
